REPORT: INDERWEIS JR. MAY RUN FOR COUNCIL IN CAPE MAY

The former fire chief in Cape May is considering a run for City Council.  The Cape May Gazette reports that Jerry Inderweis Jr. is considering a run for Council when three seats come up for a vote in November.  Inderweis Jr. told the Gazette that he’s picked up a petition and is thinking about running for Council.  The deadline to file a petition is Septmeber 2nd.

    BANK OFFICIAL GETS TWO YEARS IN WILDWOODS CONDO CASE

    A loan officer who worked at Wells Fargo will be spending two years in prison for participating in a $40 million mortgage fraud scheme based in the Wildwoods.  48 year old Robert Serao of Bayville was handed the prison term before the weekend.  He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.  Wells Fargo released nearly $5 million based on fraudulent mortgage loan applications, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

      INVESTIGATION INTO FATAL FIRE BEGINS MONDAY

      Investigators will be a the scene of a house fire that killed two people last week in Atlantic City.  Fire investigators will be coming through a home on North Providence Avenue that went up in flames on Friday and killed the wife of the landlord, and a tenant .  About five dozen firefighters helped battle the stubborn fire.

        ATLANTIC CITY COPS INVESTIGATE WEEKEND SHOOTING

        AtlanticCityPoliceAtlantic City Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the resort on Saturday night.  Two people were wounded when gunfire rang out on North New York avenue around 6pm.  Police say one man was shot in the face, while another was shot in the leg.  Police have not released the identities of the victims, nor do they have a suspect in custody.

          BODY RECOVERED IN MISSING SWIMMER CASE

          The search for a missing swimmer in central New Jersey ended over the weekend when a fisherman found a body at the Island Beach State Park.  Authorities say a 25 year old man from France went missing while swimming in the ocean that was not protected by lifeguards; the victim had never swum in the ocean before.  The body was found Saturday morning about a quarter mile from where the man entered the ocean.

            REPORT: HURRICANE SANDY AID NOT BEING DOLED OUT

            Much of the Hurricane Sandy aid in the Garden State has not been dispersed nearly two years after the storm struck.  The Star Ledger reports that the state has awarded $367 million but only $133 million has actually been delivered to property owners who were impacted by the storm.  The State Department of Community Affairs says the program has undergone changes over the past few months to help get money delivered quickly.

              DETAILS ON WILDWOOD CREST 5K RELEASED

              a.m. The race will be held on an out-and-back course near the water’s edge at low tide beginning and ending at the edge of the Wildwood Crest Beach Pier at Heather Road. The event also includes an untimed one-mile run/walk.The 5K Beach Race is a rain or shine event. An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the race at the Crest Pier Recreation Center. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers in a variety of age groups.                 ARRESTED MADE ON ARSON CHARGES

                unnamedHamilton Township Police say they have their suspect in an alleged arson. Janrv Bacolod was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree arson and 3rd degree animal cruelty.  He was transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail  Officers from the Township of Hamilton Police Department responded to the 5800 block of Holly Street for a structure fire. A dog and some cats were killed as a result of the smoke and flames. Bacolod lived at the home. Police say the incident took place as a result of a domestic disturbance.
