The search for a missing swimmer in central New Jersey ended over the weekend when a fisherman found a body at the Island Beach State Park. Authorities say a 25 year old man from France went missing while swimming in the ocean that was not protected by lifeguards; the victim had never swum in the ocean before. The body was found Saturday morning about a quarter mile from where the man entered the ocean.
Nationwide will be on your side in New Jersey next month. The large insurance carrier announced that it has received permission to sell auto insurance policies in the Garden State for the first time in three decades. Nationwide bolted out of New Jersey’s insurance market back in 1981 because the state had too many regulations.
Much of the Hurricane Sandy aid in the Garden State has not been dispersed nearly two years after the storm struck. The Star Ledger reports that the state has awarded $367 million but only $133 million has actually been delivered to property owners who were impacted by the storm. The State Department of Community Affairs says the program has undergone changes over the past few months to help get money delivered quickly.
The Borough of Wildwood Crest will stage its annual 5K Beach Race Saturday, Aug. 2 at 8:30
a.m. The race will be held on an out-and-back course near the water’s edge at low tide beginning and ending at the edge of the Wildwood Crest Beach Pier at Heather Road. The event also includes an untimed one-mile run/walk.The 5K Beach Race is a rain or shine event. An awards ceremony will be held immediately following the race at the Crest Pier Recreation Center. Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as the top male and female finishers in a variety of age groups. Hamilton Township Police say they have their suspect in an alleged arson. Janrv Bacolod was taken into custody and charged with 2nd degree arson and 3rd degree animal cruelty. He was transported to the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $100,000 bail Officers from the Township of Hamilton Police Department responded to the 5800 block of Holly Street for a structure fire. A dog and some cats were killed as a result of the smoke and flames. Bacolod lived at the home. Police say the incident took place as a result of a domestic disturbance.
The Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office completed a three day arrest sweep of people wanted for failure to make their court ordered child support payments. In Atlantic County, 30 people were arrested on Child Support Warrants and a total of $ 7,613.35 was collected from those arrested during the operation. Additionally, six people wanted on Criminal Warrants were also arrested during the operation. One such individual was an Egg Harbor Township woman charged with fraud by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Office after she allegedly uttered a false receipt to probation officers in an attempt to keep her boyfriend from being arrested on an active child support warrant. Sheriff Frank X. Balles said, “This is a good example of how law enforcement works together to effectuate the arrest of individuals wanted for failing to pay their court ordered child support.”
The price at the pump dropped five cents in the past week. The new numbers from AAA Mid Atlantic say that gas prices are now $3.50 locally per week. The local average is trending nine cents better than the national average. AAA believes prices will continue to slide down or remain flat in the near future, unless there is some sort of unrest overseas that would cause prices to pop again.

An 22-year veteran of the Pleasantville Police Department will be getting a promotion. Emory Silipigni is becoming a Lt. with the force. Silipigni has served on the Patrol, Traffic, Cycle, and SWAT units. The department noted his command of Mayor Peterson’s ceremony and the Pleasantville portion of the Challenge AC triathlon as primary examples of his dedication and attention to detail.
Police are looking into the theft of a credit card and fraudulent purchases made as a result. The unidentified suspect obtained the victim’s credit card and made 5 separate purchases using the card, until the victim discovered it missing and had it cancelled. The suspect, who is depicted in the photo, is a black or hispanic female in her mid to late 20’s, 110-120 pounds, with straight hair pulled back in a bun and was operating the pictured 2006-2008 Suzuki Forenza. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
