The search has been called off for 45 year old Andrew Biddle, the boater who was lost at sea following a boating accident near Longport on Sunday. The United States Coast Guard announced Monday night that it suspended the search for Biddle. Biddle’s pontoon boat hit a buoy and then a jetty in Longport. Another man on the boat safely swam to shore.
New Jersey boardwalks are a good place to grab a bite to eat. The Daily Meal released a list of boardwalks with the best place to eat. According to the list, Wildwood was third and Atlantic City was fourth. Also, Ocean City came in at 15th. This list includes boardwalks from across the country. San Diego won the top spot.
An attempted sexual assault took place in Middle Township on Sunday around 11 pm. Police say they are looking into the incident that happened at the Hideaway Beach Condominium In Goshen. A 49-year-old female was assaulted on the beach at the end of Cooks Beach Road. The victim was grabbed by an unknown male subject. The subject ripped the victim’s shirt and attempted to remove her shorts. The victim was able to get free and run to the safety of her vehicle. Police are looking for three witnesses that are described as being white males in their early twenties. They were working on a small boat that was on a trailer and attached to a pickup truck or SUV type vehicle. The suspect is described as a white male, slender, 5’8″ to 5’10″, with shoulder length curly or wavy hair.
A drug aimed at saving a life did so in Middle Township. Police there administered the drug to a woman believed to have suffered a drug overdose on Friday. The 20-year-old was given the narcan and the woman later regained consciousness. The subject was transported by Middle Township EMS to Cape Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. The Middle Township Police Department Patrol Division started carrying Narcan this past week after all officers were trained. The Narcan kits were supplied by Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor.
Police are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery in Egg Harbor Township on Sunday. The victim stated he was in the drive through when a subject approached his passenger side window, brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The victim pulled the vehicle forward and began honking the horn. The suspect fled the area on foot south on Hingston Avenue. The victim was not injured in this incident. The suspect is described as a light skinned black male in his late teens or early 20’s approximately 5’10” in height. The suspect was last seen wearing a grey shirt, grey pants and a white hat. Anyone having any information regarding this incident should contact the Egg Harbor Township Criminal Investigation Bureau at 926-4051.
There have been three daytime residential burglaries reported within the past 5 days in Mullica Township, the homes were all unoccupied. Police warn that daytime burglars often commit crimes where they believe that no one is home. Some things that a homeowner can do are: park a car in a different spot in your driveway day to day and make sure to grab the newspaper and mail every day. Police say if anyone has information on suspicious activity to contact them immediately.
A local man was sentenced for defrauding owners of timeshare properties. The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Eric Reilly, 34, of Galloway, faces three years in jail and will be ordered to pay back more than $3 million in restitution. Reilly previously plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
Casino employees who are going to be out of work could get some help in the near future. Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson is pledging the assistance of county government for residents who are facing the threat of unemployment due to the projected closings of Revel, Showboat and Trump Plaza casinos. The Atlantic Cape May Workforce Investment Board (WIB) has been asked to work with Showboat Atlantic City and the state’s Rapid Response team to inform Showboat employees about programs available to them as dislocated workers, including unemployment compensation benefits and their rights with respect to wages, severance and benefits related to termination. The WIB is expected to be in contact with Revel and Trump Plaza in the near future as well.
A new report says its a blowout when looking at fundraising for the U.S. Senate race. U.S. Senator Cory Booker has a $3.5 million edge over Republican challenger Jeff Bell, according to the Asbury Park Press. For the last quarter, Bell only raised $72,000 and loaned himself $35,000 according to the story. Booker is widely considered likely to win reelection.
The Coast Guard and local responders are searching Monday for a 45-year-old man who was reported missing Sunday after a boating accident near Longport, New Jersey. Missing is Andrew Bittle. Personnel from Longport Police contacted Coast Guard watchstanders at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday and reported a boater swam to shore after being in a boating accident aboard a pontoon boat. The boater stated the pontoon’s operator was missing.
