RUN FOR FALLEN RETURNS, FAMILIES REMEMBER THOSE WHO SERVED PROUDLY

Locally and around the state, families will be remembering those who served our country proudly. The Run of the Fallen is taking place once again. A special flag ceremony will take place Thursday at 6 p.m. at Sunset Beach. Over 30 families of those who gave their lives will be present for this ceremony along with the runners and run support team.

At 8:30 am on Friday, a team of active duty military runners from Joint Base McGuire/Dix/Lakehurst and other units will leave from the Cape May Light House and start a 3 day 172-mile relay run through New Jersey to Holmdel stopping every mile to honor each service member from New Jersey killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. Each mile of the run is dedicated to an individual NJ Hero and their family, and the run team will stop at each Hero Marker (each mile) to present a flag and personalized biographical card to waiting family members, friends and comrades with the goal of creating a 172+ mile memorial trail through New Jersey.
