REPORT: CAPE MAY’S LANDMARK DESIGNATION IS IN DANGER

250px-CapeMayNJSignA report in the Press of Atlantic City suggests that Cape May’s designation as a national landmark is in danger.  The Press reported over the weekend that the National Park Service has put Cape May’s designation on a “watch list”, but local officials are not really sure why.  The city was declared a national landmark back in May, 1976.  The city was reportedly on a watch list before in 1996 when the Christian Admiral Hotel was torn down; the watch designation was lifted three years ago.
