The tourism funding in the state doesn’t match what is being put in. This is the complaint many in South Jersey have. Legislation is in Trenton that would put back tourism funding to 2005 levels, currently the state only funds tourism at the $9 million poison pill level. The money comes out of the occupancy tax and no less than $9 million is allowed to put into tourism funding. Cape May County Chamber of Commerce President Vicki Clark notes that Cape May County generates the fourth most in occupancy tax but receives the third lowest amount back.
