LAWMAKERS DISCUSS EXEMPTION TO SAVE EMERGENCY WORKER JOBS

120px-Seal_of_New_Jersey_svgLegislation is being considered to allow municipalities to raise property taxes more than two percent. The proposal would create a temporary exemption that can only be used to pay public safety jobs. Police, fire, and other emergency workers are the only exemptions that could be used under this bill. This news comes as many municipalities are looking at major police and fire layoffs across the state, including Atlantic City. No word yet on whether Gov. Chris Christie would accept this temporary exemption.
