HURRICANE CONDITIONS EXPECTED AT JERSEY CAPE

The National Weather Service now predicts hurricane conditions in Cape May County on Sunday.  This morning’s update on Hurricane Irene puts the storm as a Category Two storm when it brushes by the North Carolina-Virginia border early Sunday morning.  The storm is expected to move along the New Jersey coastline early Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon and reduce to a tropical storm by the time it hits New England early Monday morning.  Irene remains a powerful storm.  Cape May County Emergency Management officials will meet today at 1pm to discuss the storm; at 3pm, WCZT will broadcast live a press conference where emergency officials will discuss a course of action.  Today is the day to make final preparations for the storm.  Many weekend events at the Jersey Shore have been cancelled due to the approaching hurricane.
