COAST GUARD ISSUES REPORT ON 2009 FISHING BOAT SINKING

On Friday the U.S. Coast Guard released the results of their investigation into the sinking of the Lady Mary fishing boat on March 24th, 2009, 65 miles southeast of Cape May. The report found that the loss of the crew and boat was due to a combination of many factors, unsafe preconditions and unsafe decisions. The boat was outfitted with functioning lifesaving equipment, emergency flares and communications equipment, but lack of training caused them to not be used properly. The full report on the Lady Mary can be found online at the Coast Guard’s Homeport page.
