TWO BUSTED FOR DRUG POSSESSION IN WILDWOOD

Wildwood Police say they took two into custody who were involved in illegal drug sales. Jesus Roas-Leon and Luis Morales-Correa, both were charged after police seized $2,000 in drugs prepacked for street sales. Also seized was $1,300 in currency. Both were charged with possession of heroin and related offenses. Bail was set at $200,000 for Roas-Leon, and $100,000 for Morales-Correa.

VISITORS PREPARE TO SAY GOODBYE TO REVEL AND SHOWBOAT

This weekend could be the final time most people can visit Revel or Showboat casinos. Both are slated to close with the holiday weekend, though many hope both will be bought at some point in the future and reopened. While it is unclear if either will reopen again, thousands of people will lose their jobs as a result of the closings. Showboat will shut down on Sunday, while Revel will close the hotel on portion on Monday and the casino on Tuesday.

CHRISTIE SAYS HE WON’T SUPPORT OPEN SPACE BALLOT QUESTION

Voters will have the chance to make a constitutional amendment to create open space funding by dedicating a portion of tax revenue for the fund. Gov. Chris Christie said he would be voting no on the question during a press conference Thursday. The governor noted he thought it was irresponsible to spend money in a dedicated way like that. The fund would come from four percent of the corporate business tax.

GOOD FORECAST AHEAD OF LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Mostly good weather is being predicted for the Labor Day weekend. The National Weather Service is calling for partly to mostly sunny skies all weekend. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and Monday, but neither day has more than a 30 percent chance of storms. Temperatures should be right around 80 to 85 degrees as a high, for those people looking to hit the beach one more time before the unofficial end to summer happens.

DRUG ARREST MADE IN LOWER TOWNSHIP

Lower Township Police say a report of a suspicious person led to a drug arrest. Authorities arrested Keiffer Hahn, and charged him with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and other drug offenses. Bail was set at $15,000. Police say the arrest took place Wednesday night on the 700 block of Lincoln Blvd. in North Cape May.

CHOKING VICTIM SAVED BY COAST GUARD

The Coast Guard helped save the life of a choking victim Wednesday aboard a yacht near Cape May Harbor. A crew member aboard the Cape May-based 65-foot yacht Canyon Lady hailed for help when a 61-year-old woman aboard choked on her lunch. A 45-foot Response Boat − Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Cape May met the Canyon Lady on the inbound side of the jetties where a Coast Guard EMT went aboard the yacht to render assistance. The Coast Guard was successfully about the save the woman and she is in good condition.

TWO TRANSFER OFF WILDWOOD CATHOLIC GIRL’S BASKETBALL TEAM

Wildwood Catholic has lost two players off their girl’s basketball team for the upcoming season. Brian Cunniff from the Wildwood Leader reports that Danielle Sanderlin and Naiyanna Saab will both be enrolling in different schools. Both will be going to Gloucester Catholic and will have to miss the first 30 days of the upcoming season due to transfer rules. Distance traveled was explained as the reason for the decision, noting that Sanderlin came from Williamstown and Saab from north Cumberland County.

ALBANY DEVILS RETURN TO BOARDWALK HALL FOR TWO GAMES THIS WINTER

New Jersey Devils fans and Philadelphia Flyers fans will get a glimpse of the future this winter as their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates Albany Devils and Lehigh Valley Phantoms square off for a two game series at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall on Friday, November 28 and Sunday, December 14. The Albany Devils last took the ice at Boardwalk Hall’s Art Dorrington Ice Rink for a four-game series during the 2013-2014 season, with two games each against the Hershey Bears and Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins. The team also visited Boardwalk Hall in the 2010-2011 and the 2012-2013 seasons for regular season games.
