A new report says that the door is wide open for a new Assembly Speaker. Politickernj.com reports that current speaker Sheila Oliver expressed to them that she isn’t very concerned with keeping her position as speaker. One of the names being considered for the position is Vincent Prieto. Nothing will be formerly decided until after next week’s election.
It all became official on Thursday. Cory Booker has been sworn in as U.S. Senator. Booker beat Steve Lonegan in a special election this month to win the seat that had been held by the late Senator Frank Lautenberg. Booker already resigned as mayor of Newark and was sworn in by Vice President Joe Biden. Booker is also scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama as well.
A Kentucky Fried Chicken in Vineland became a drive through..literally..last weekend. Vineland Police say 23 year old Terry Steele Jr. of Rosenhayn drove an SUV into the side of a KFC located on North Delsea Drive Saturday morning. When cops arrived, Steele was walked out of a nearby wooded area. He told police he was afraid since his license was suspended.
November 9th..that’s the date Middle Township residents can bring their unwanted documents to an open shred day. The event will be held from 9am until Noon at 400 West Mechanic Street in Cape May Court House. A professional document shredding company will shred all documents on site; the documents will be converted to recycled paper products.
Cory Booker has spent his last day as mayor of Newark. Booker resigned from the job on Wednesday since he will become a United States Senator on Thursday. Booker will be sworn in to his new Senate seat by Vice President Joe Biden at 12 Noon, on Halloween.
Its officially time to step away from the game. Allen Iverson formally announced his retirement from basketball during a press conference on Wednesday. Iverson is an 11 time NBA All-Star, and led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals. Iverson said he was happy with his decision, even though he always thought he would dread the day he had to retire. His legacy is still felt in the league, as LeBron James just called him the best pound-for-pound player in NBA history.
For the first time in history, the White House Christmas tree will be coming from New Jersey. Officials from the White House came to a tree farm in White Township this week and will be moved to the nation’s capitol. All of the trees are Douglass Firs, and each stands nine to ten feet tall.
The showers are gone, and Middle Township will throw a huge parade tonight. The township will hold its annual Halloween parade this evening at 7 o’clock. The parade will head north on Route 9 in Cape May Court House and include many rescue vehicles along with local businesses and service organizations.
Police in Vineland have identified the 14 year old girl who was struck by two vehicles while walking to her bus stop Wednesday morning. Alexis Strittmatter was struck and killed by two vehicles while she was walking across South Main Road shortly before 7am on Wednesday. She later died of her injuries. Strittmatter was a student at Vineland High School North. So far, no charges have been filed against either driver.
An accident took place on Wednesday around 1 p.m. Multiple police officers were on the scene for the investigation. The vehicles were cleared away from the area within an hour. Traffic was delayed on the eastbound direction of Route 47 as a result. Police haven’t released any specifics of the incident yet. More information will be released here once it becomes available.
